The most popular spot on the Herault, but still well worth a visit. At the foot of the gorge, is a very large deep pool with beaches and a shallow river perfect for young children. The entrance to the gorge is spanned by a bridge, known as the Pont du Diable. There are big jumps from the rocks at the side of the bridge and, for the really mad, a jump directly from the main arch.
The best spots are upstream – either by canoe [you can hire off the beach] or walking/scrambling. At a pinch point the water flows fast, in and out of huge boulders and emerges from holes in the limestone.
Beware though, it’s busy at peak season, especially weekends.
There are further swimming places upstream.
